The Club was doing a useful work in bringing together, in an agreeable maimer men interesed in'the Empire. lie was a firm opponent of the view that it was mainly self-interest which bound our Empire together, but all his observations went to show that sentiment, devotion to the Crown, the Old La.ml, the Old Constitution , our common heritage, played just as great a part. There was no more important work to be done than finding some way to reduce the cost of cable messages, to push forward the All Bed .route to lessen, the time taken by our jnaij. steamers, and to back up such societies .as the Victorian!
