PERSONAL.
Mr Merewether Meadows, L.A;B., of Wellington, was in Dannevirke this mornin" and examined twelve teachers in singing on behalf of the Education Department. The Ven. Archdeacon Walsh has resigned the Archdeaconry of Waimata, but at the request of the Bishop he will retain the title of Archdeacon. He now resides with Archdeacon Willis at Cambridge. It is understood that Mr J. Brown, Agricultural Instructor to the .South Canterbury Board of Education, has been chosen to ill an important position in the Agricultural Department of South Australia. If Mr Brown accepts the position he will leave Timaru shortly to take up his new duties. Colonel A. W. Robin, C.8., Adjut-ant-General of the New Zealand Forces, has been made a ■Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St., George, not Commander, as reported. Colonel Robin thus becomes a C.M.G. not K.C.M.G. a distinction which would have "given him a knighthood. A very old resident of Hokianga, in the person of Mrs Quigley, died on -Sunday at the advanced age of 90 years. Deceased arrived by the ship Aurora in 1840, and landed in Wellington. Subsequently, in company with her first husband, Mr Jas. Maxwell, she travelled overland to Wairoa, Hawke's Bay, and theii came on to Auckand, the town at that time being full.of refugees from Honi Heke-s wars. She afterwards resided at the Thames for many years. Going to Hokianga in -1879, the deceased resided there until her death. She had a large family, and leaves many descendants.
