The escape of a man named William Wheeler, who was pinned down by a fall of stone near the Caseade river (Tasmania) for several days, was remarkable. Wheeler was working in a race by himself, and was trying to remove a stone weighing about oewt.. In trying to extricate himself he fell, and the stone then rolled across his legs, pinning him down. There wore two heads fo water running at the time, an<l the lower part of his' body was under water. He lay in that position for six days and six nights without food. He said that he thought that while tllere was life there was hope, and he prayed for his discoverv. A miner named Price, who was working about a mile away, happened to take a walk through the bush, and came on. to the place where Wheeler was lying. He could not remove the stone, and went back and got his mate. The pair removed the stone, and then carried Wheeler to their hut. He is expected to fully recover.

Tho monthly meeting of the Library Committee was hold last evening when there were present: Messrs Bickford (chairman), Blakiston, Quig.ley, Buick, Grant, So.undy, and Knight; and Mr Magnusson, Town Clerk, was also in attendance. Messrs Bickford and Quiglcy were appointed a book'committee for the month. Accounts amounting to £3l Is 2d were passed for payment. Shakespeare's immortal comedy of "The Merry Wives of Windsor" should lend itself admirably to pictorial reproduction, and this film should prove one of the )>sst in the new programme to be shown at the Picture Theatre to-niidit. The story of "Dido, forsaken by Dencas" will be the star, and this classical legend should make a very fine picture indeed. The scenics will comprise views in Amalfi (Italy) and Valetta (Malta). The remaining films will comprise,. "Love's Stratagem,"' ''Love, Luck, and Gasoline,'' "Toutolini wants money," '•Love and the Lair,' (a Dickens story), Pathc Gazette, 135, and "A Thief Well Eeceived.'' There is certain to be a large attendance.
