LIQUOR AND POLITICS.
10 TUK EDITOR. Si) - ., —As a vigorous supporter of tlie Dominion Prohibition proposal, J. must write protesting against tJie proposed action of one or two Prohibition supporters in voting I'or Mr Hunter merely because Mr .tull is, among other things, a brewer. I. cannot sec that Mr Jul! offends against our principles by brewing beer so long as it is legal to brew beer. Our complaint is not against brewers, but against publicans, and tin.' weakness of man m being intemperate. .Hut on the other hand, Mr Hunter is ;i whole-hearted supporter of Massoy and Masseyism, and Mr Massey made a strong charge against the late Mr T. K. Taylor, whom we regard as the hero of the Temperance, party. Mr Massey, at this late day, comes forward with the excuse that his charge against Mr laylor was made in the heat of passion, during a very acrimonious debate. This excuse cannot be accepted, because had ziucharge been made in the heat of passion, Mr Massey should have withdrawn it and apologised as soon as he had cooled down, and his long silence sin(v amounts to a continued reiteration of the charge. Mr Massey stands as the bitter enemy of our departed ieader, and even yet lie has not admitted that the charges had no foundation in fact. Mr Hunter has done nothing in the public service, while Mr Jul] has for many years devoted his life to the public weal, and 1 intend to vote for the latter with a clear conscience on political, prohibition, and personal grounds.—J. am, ctc *-' KG USER. Pannevirke, Dec. G, 1911-
