BOWLING BOYCOTTED.
* Newcastle, June 13. Mr. Peter Bowling, leader of the ' • recent big coal strike in Newcastle, is looking for work. Little has been seen of him since he was defeated for the presidency of the ' Colliery Employees' Federation, but when spoken to in Scott street .to-day he was far from down-heart-ed, and prophesied that the..time was not far distant when he would again be at the head of the federation! "But," said the late strike ' leader, "at present I am looking ' for work in this district, and I cannot get ib. I am boycotted throughout the district. Why this is so I cannot say, as I was only '' one of the leaders of the strike. If I had been the only leader the -result would have been otherwise. ' I expect, however, to take on 1 navvying shortly at 8/- a day." Referring to the appointment of a Royal Commission to inquire into the working of the "miners'' mines," at the time of the late strike, Mr. Bowling said he would be pleased to see such a commission appointed, as the Government, the Opposition, and fha federation were in. favour of the commission. He did not see why j it should not be appointed. Returning to the question of the federation prospects, Mr. Bowling 1 , said he believed he would once ' . again be its president. The attempt to foist political opinions upon the unionists of the federation was the beginning of the end of the present officers of the fed-. ' eration.
