LAWN TENNIS.

DANNEVIRKE TOURNAMENT

The Dannevirke Tournament was in every way a. great success, and the management must feel satisfied that it was a good move to lix their dates just ahead of the Masterton meeting. Miss Nunneley was in great form, and won in tho final from Miss Travel's. The. Jatter player was suffering from a very bad cold, and the hot weather troubled her considerably. The winner was most consistent right through, and gave a tine display of real sparkling tennis. In the doubles, Misses Travel's and VVollwood held their own, and put Misses Nunneley and Williams ■out. Parker had matters all his own way in tho singles, and he also won tho doubles with Harold Brown. Fisher and Miss Travers proved too good for Brown and Miss Nunneley in the combined. Taken altogether, the form shown at the meeting was particularly good, and one thing that could not

but attract attention was the number of promising young players among the ladies. They hailed from the Hawke's Bay province, and some of them should bo able in a few years to hold their own against tho best players in the Dominion.—"Huka," in the Pose.

DANNEVIRKE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The annual tournament of the popular Hawke-'-s -Bay (Jiub was more successful this .year than over, inasmuch as it was .attended by butter players than have competed at Dannevirke in any previous .>ear, amongst those to take part being Parker, fisher, Cox, .Brown, Swainson, Misses Nunneley, Travers, Weliwood, and Jriartgul, these four ladies afterwards contesting the semi-finals of the Wellington provincial championships. The Sydney player, Miss L. Williams, was also a competitor, and proved herself a fino double player. Parker and Miss Nunneley, in winning the respective singles championships, only repeated their successes in the Xdarioorough provincial tournament, and their exhibitions in the finals of these events were of such a high standard that there was very little, doubt existing as to their .ability to add to their reputations in a similar manner at the subsequent tournament at Masterton a couple of days later. Tho former's tennis in the Dannevirke final was his best on his present NewZealand tour, and ho has been showing much better form in the North Island than ho did at Blenheim.

A word of praise is duo to the unselfish action of the Dannevirke Club in changing the date of their tournament so that it should not clash with the championships of the Wellington province at Masterton. The Masterton Club, through its president, tho Rev. Dean M'Konna, publicly expressed its appreciation of the fine action of the Dannevirke people in connection with this matter.—"Glengarry," in N.Z. Times.
