Three detectives raided a bookseller's shop at Dunedtiii yesterday, and seized a quantity of 'literature, which is alleged to be of an indecent ma<ture. The police arc reticent in regard to the matter, but a copy of a publication taken, which is in book form,, wil'l probably be submitted to the Attorney-General, who will decide- whether a prosecution will follow or not. It is understood that the book lias commanded a. fairly large sale. A meeting of the committee of the Danncvirke Horticultural and Industrial Society was held at the secretary's office last evening, at which were present Messrs G. Bickford (chairman), H. A. Bamford, E. Edwards, H. Graham, W. T. Kilford, R. P. Soundy, F. W. Smith, and A. E. Green (secretary) A quantity of routine business in connection with the forthcoming show, to be held on February 22, was transacted, and' the judges for the various classes were selected. The committee wishes the public to note an alteration in the rules, by which exhibitors of paintings and photographs are required to enter and deliver their exhibits at the hall on the evening preceding tho show. As a largely increased entry in these classes is anticipated this year, the alteration has been made to enable the hanging committee to do justice to all the work by judicious arrangement. Exhibitors of collections of pot plants are also requested to notify the secretary a. few days before the show, in order that the stageing necessary for the exhibits may be provided. The secretary reports numerous applications for schedules, and there are all the indications of a record exhibition.
