Press Assn—By telegraph—Copyright LISBON, January 16. The gas Avorkers avlio went out on strike yesterday, damaged the mains soiwing the suburbs. The public throughout haA'e been antagonistic to the strikers, and the Provisional Government has receiVed an imposing demonsaration of goodAvill, the battalions of Volunteers Avhicli were enrolled after the proclamation of the Republic, marching to the various Ministerial offices, ac~ compaided by bands and thousands of people to assure the Ministers of their support. Immediately aftenvards the city Avas startled by an explosion, duo to the results of sabotage. A leaking of gas through tlio- sewers became ignited by rat-catchers' lanterns. Three Avere seriously burned and scleral houses damaged.
