FlllST FLIGHT IN AUSTRALIA. Press Assn—By telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, March 18. The first aerial flight in Australia was accomplished by Houdini, a music hall performer. He used a Voisin biplane weighing 14001bs, fitted with a 68 horse-power petrol engine. The trial took place at Diggers' Rest, the "flyer" making three assents, during the first of which lie -covered a mile in a little over a minute at a height, of forty feet. In the second attempt the aeronaut ascended to 100' feet and remained in the air for three minutes. Three miles were -traversed in the third ascent in a little over four minutes, the machine descending graceful^ 7 and gently to the earth.
