CROQUET.
The first croquet tournament held by the Dannevirke Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club opened this morning. The weather was splendid, and the lawns were smooth and fast. In order to meet the requirements of the tournament, three of the tennis .courts have been utilised, and thus five lawns are available for play. The players are principally ladies, but several gentlemen have also entered the lists. Visitors .were present from various parts of the district, including several players from the Norse wood Club. Two contests have been arranged, one for first grade players and the other for second-class players. In the first grade there are 24 competitors, and in the second 20.
