The annual report of the North Island Bt'i.ss Bands' Association, to be submitted by Major Dunk, vicepresident, to the annual meeting on Friday next at Wanganui, states that the support received is very satisfactory. During the past year four .new bands have been affiliated. Several bands are missed from the contest this year, but next year, when the celebrated Newton Band of New South Wales will be couipet-' ing, it is hoped there will be more general competition. The financial position is gratifying as a credit balance is shown after paying all expenses. The following have given donations

during the past year : —Messrs G. Hunter, Porangahau; E. Basil Jones, Hastings; L. Cohen, Wanganui; H. M. Simmonds, Palmerston North ; C. N. Clausen, Palmerston; R. C Bishop, Christ-church; N. Meuli, Wanganui; S. J. Gibbons, Marton; Rutherford, Palmerston North; H. L. Brett, Auckland; J. Higham, Hawera; D. Pringle, Palmerston North; O. Pedersen, Morton; H. L. Young, Palmerston North; J. G. Swan, Wanganui ; Major C. Dunk, Palmerston North.

The president, Mr M. Cohen, has decided to retire, and the task of filling the position will be difficult. The committee reicordis its appreciation of his valuable services in maintaining the prestige and dignity of the association. The standard of music, both in A and B grades, is still improving, and the B grade class has given a great stimulus to the association.
