Mr and Mrs F. W. Smith were passengers for Wellington by the express train to-day.
It is announced in London that the Ven. Samuel "Williams, of Napier, New Zealand, Archdeacon of Hawke's Bay, who died on March 14, 1907, left estate in England valued at £2405. Professor Dickie, the newly-ap-pointed Professor of Knox Cellege, arrives in Dunedin on the 22nd, and his induction, will take place the following night. The Rev. T. Tait, of* Christchureh, has been asked to address, the newly-inducted professor. Word was received in Hokitika on Monday that his Excellency the Governor would arrive there from Reefton by special train on Monday, 14th inst., at about 9 p.m. He leaves for Ross on the 16th., returning the same evening. A number of friends of Mr and Mrs J. A. Riddell, and Miss Speedy., who left to-day on a trip to England, took farewell of them at v tl\e railway station. Dr and Mrs Riiidell were passengers for the north by the same train. Mr W. Pember Peeves has been sitting as a member of ' the Royal Commission which has been investigating the question of electoral reform. It is stated that as soon as the new Parliament meets, the members will re-assemble in order that the. enquiry may be brought to a close at the earliest possible moment. A good deal of highly-important evideneehas so far been taken. Lord Richard Cavendish (chairman) has had associated with him Sir Courtenay Ilbert (Clerk to the House of Commons), Sir Francis Hopwood (Permanent UudoT-Secretarv at the Colonial Offico), Mr J. W.
