FOREIGN TARIFFS.

The Canadian Minister for Labor introduced the Combine Investigation Act, which provides machinery to investigate Trusts which may enhance prices and resctrict competition. Any combination affecting the cost of the storage or transport of goods, or shipping rates is included. BERLIN, January 20. Germany's general tariff is to be automatically enforced against the United States on February 9, owing to inability to continue to apply the conventional tariffs on the 127 articles enumerated in the modus Vivendi. LONDON, January 20. The Colonial Office is without information respecting the American maximum tariff, but special enquiries at New York show that Australia is not admitted as a favored nation. (Received January 21, 8.5 a.m.) OTTAWA, January 20. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, in the Dominion House of Commons, replying to Mr Foster, said the Government was of opinion that Canada, was included with Britain and America in the minimum tariff, but in the absence of Hon. W. Fielding, Minister for Finance, he would not care to make any definite statement.
