Fresh trouble has occurred among the wharf laborers, who- declined to allow the bunkering of the Ocean steamship Company's steamer Jason from the collier Illaroo. About 300 men ceased work. SYDNEY, January 19. The hearing of the cases against Bowling and others was continued to-day, when the Crown case against Bowling closed. The police evidence showed that Bowling urged the miners to be orderly and not to insult the police. Bowling, in asking for acquittal, pleaded that he could he doing better work outside than taking up time in court. He added that undoubtedly had the trial not delayed matters in connection with the settlement there might have been peace now. The application for acquittal was refused. Bowling then secured an adjournment till Monday. ENGLISH COAL. SYDNEY, January 19. The steamer Tottenham bixwght the first cargo of English coal. After landing 3000 tons at Fremantle, it brought 2000 tons here, and coal for the Orient Company. (Received January 20, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, January 19. Three-fourths of the _Durham miners are working, and it is expected that the dissatisfaction with the Eight Hours Act will be remedied through the usual channels. The executive of the Northumberland Miners' Association has decided to pay lockout relief this week, despite the difference with members. (Received January 20, 9.38 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The number affected by the Jason trouble is only about 150 men. They are under the impression that the llaroo's coal is non-union. The steamers Moresby and Maallina are to be recommissioned for the Island service, sufficient coal having been obtained to permit them to resume running.
