ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
[press association.] AUCKLAND, This Day. Mrs Holt, laundress, took some carbolic acid last night, it is alleged in an attempt to commit suicide. Mrs Holt liA r es in Stanley-street, Parnell, and is an elderly woman, having a groAvn-up family. She has been living apart from her husband, and came originally from Victoria. It is alleged the attempt Avas made about 7.30 last CA-ening. The police removed the woman to the hospital, and she is progressing as wel las can be expected.
On Saturday afternoon the body of Mrs Esther Muller, Avho had been employed as a at the Wellington Woollen Company's mills, Avas found hanging by the neck in a Avash-house in Ryan-street, Petone. Elizabeth Beresford, aged forty and unmarried, died suddenly at Christchurch on Saturday night. At the inquest yesterday a verdict Avas recorded after medical and other oA'idenne bad been heard, of death from cerebral apoplexy. Mrs Matthews, a young married woman, about 21 years of age, residing in Dublin-street, Wanganui, died Avhile under chloroform in. some dental rooms on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday evening Christian Vecht, a foreigner, about 6/ years of age, fell down a steep and narrow staircase at a boarding-house in Mac-Laggan-streot, Dunedin. at which he bad been lodging, and Mas so soA'erely injured that he died before medical assistance could be obtained.
