ARNST WINS.
i [urgent.] WANGANUI, to-day. Tho raw for tho sculling championship of the world was decided to-day in perfect weather. The start took place at 2^lo. Webb won the toss, and rowed uiside. He kept the lead for the first mile, which was cut out in a little over 5 minutes. No official time was taken. Anist soon reversed tho positions, and put a length between him and Webb, who was steering rather -badly. Arnst kept outdistancing the challenge, leading by four lengths. Webb made strenuous efforts to reduce tlfo distance, and at two miles, which was cut out in 10.52, Webb crept up within a length, and kept .steadily gaining on Arnst, who, however, pulled out several lengths. >.ebb again Teduced Arnst's lead, and in tho last quarter of a- mile came within a couple of lengths, amidst great shouts from his supporters. There was a desperate struggle at the finish, but Arnst-maintaijied his lead, and won by throe lengths in 18min 4 a-ssec.
