The Australians in their first-inn-ings scored 307. Trumper and Bardsley opened a fine partnership. Fifty was rattled on- the board in 25 minutes. The first wicket fell at 122. When Trumper was 81 he was nearly stumped.- He then played back to slow balls. Hartigan and MacArtney were got cheaply. A splendid right-hand catch disposed of Carkeek, and the eighth wicket fell for 248. ' McAlister, by faultless play, and O'Connor by vigorous hitting, brought the third century up. Whitty knocked up aii easy one, and- ended the innings, which lasted four hours- ■ ■ . . ■ The principal scores were : Trumper 133, Bardsley 56, Gregory 7, Hartigan 9, McAlister 42, O'Connor (in) 36, sundries 8.
