CONSTABLES IN TROUBLE.

[press association.] WELLINGTON, to-day. At tlic Magistrate's Court to-day, Mr Ridclell, S.M.. gave, liis decision in' the case in which Police Constables John E. Watson,, and Wm. 'Joseph Gardiner were charged "with assaulting Wm.' Rolfe-and his wife on the night of tho 10th May. His Worship commented in strong terms on the conduct of the men. H,o had carefully considered the caso from every side, and- if there .was a' possible chance of find ing some ■ redeeming feature in favor of defendants he* should be ( glad to do so • but he could not do «ov Watson was fined the maximum penalty of £10, a.nd Gardiner £5. Gardiner Avas also convicted of assault on Sirs Rolfe, and .sentenced to 21 days' .imprisonment.
