Town coeeespondent .) A fire occurred early on Saturday evening, Marph 20, in a house occupied by Mr "W. Mack at the Pukehinau sawmill. After returning from his work at the mill lie lit the fire for the purpose of preparing his evening meal and baking a batch of bread. He then Avent into an adjoining paddock to gather some mushrooms. The place was observed to be on fire, an alarm was given, several willing helpers were quickly on the spot, and immediately formed a, bucket brigade. They continued untiringly for five or six hours, but the most they could do was to prevent the flames froni spreading to the mill plant and timber. The bridge about two yards distant from the fire was with x great difficulty saved. jVlaek liad no insurance on his effects, and says lie regrets the- loss of his discharge and identification pap-^ ers most, as they cannot be'duplicated. He has been, a soldier. The supply of milk to the Waimiro creamery is reported as having kept up remarkably well, and is likely to continue good for another month. Mr F. Giddens, who a few years ago installed a cheese-making plant in his dairy, has done remarkably well and is more than satisfied with the season's output up to the present. On Saturday, the 20tli inst., a cricket match was played between 'Weber and Waione schoolboys at Weber. It resulted in a win for Weber by 24 runs. They are to play the return match in Waione early in April. Mr and Mrs J. Newman left for Auckland last Wednesday to attend the wedding of their son, Mr Cos Newman, who is to be married to Miss Goudin, formerly school teacher here. Old and* young join in bestwishes for tlieir future happiness and' welfare.
