The first day of the above Club's summer meeting was commenced, at the Makirikiri course this afternoon. The attendance is- very fair, consider- ; ing the heavy rain* which commenced to fail at 12 o'clock: All the arrangements for the. meeting are well forward, and Mr Freeman has the secretarial work well in hand. Eleven bookmakers were licensed on the inside, and three outside. This order was maintained until over the last hurdle, 'where Commander and' Scenery -eanie to the front and ! finished locked together, Commander j gaining the verdict by a head, Master Douglas two lengths away third. Entering the straight, these three were still in front. Half way. down Moral made "his run, and. won by half a length, Mahuta beating White Lie by a simtlar distance for third place, Moloch last.
