KIRITAKI.

[OWN CORIIEBPONBENT.] Of course the topic of tho last week was tho County elections, and very keeiij interest was taken in the polling. Ahoiit 200 votes were? recorded. 01" the four .candidates .Mr M. 0. Grainger was evidently prime favourite, topping the poll with S I. votes. Messrs Moorby and GoldiiuHi seemed fairly even in the popular favour, being divided by only two votes, which fell to the lot of <\lv Moorby, so that Kiritaki has still a councillor of its own. Mr M. 0. Grainger might almost be regarded as belonging to this end too, seeing that he resides just beyond the boundary creek, but has never been looked on as a Kiritaki candidate, but as opposing Mr Goldfinch for the western district. It would seem a great loss to the county that Mr Goldfinch, after many years' good work and having as ho has, a thorough grasp of the business should have lost his seat, but the tendency of the times seems ever to oust the old and tried in favour of tho ~young and .inexperienced, and gratitude for past service would appear to be a. negligible quantity in regard to public servants. The daily journeys to the local creamery are now enlivened by lively discussions' on the probable results of Tuesday's poll, and as each candidate lias some strong partisans, arguments are apt to bo hot and strong. ; Considerable interest is also being evinced in the guerilla warfare at present going on between Mr Moorby and some person or persons unknown. It appears that Mr Moorby, having resumed possession of the land for-, merly leased by : the Palmerston Sash and Door Company, has erected a strong wire fence on his boundary. Now -the only possible road leading into I 'the Tamaki from this end is that made"b^ the mill, and which runs throughMr Moorby'a land,, consoquohtly, now that the fence is up there is no way of getting to Rangita he from this end v the Toadway being blocked by a bog and a creek. Therefore war has been declared, and hostilities have begun by the cutting of the wires on • several occasions. However, night watches are being kept and big guns trained on tho spot', so that doubtless an early capture of the attackers will result. It would seem that the spirit of antagonism to this new fence has even sproad to the animal population of Rangitane. for on Saturday • a horse belonging to Mr Phillips which had- been left standing with the harness ori for a few minutes' suddenly bolted and galloped • full • tilt , up tho Rangitane Road, and following- -the' old track burst through the new fence with fearful impact, and continued its mad career until within a very short distance of the .other boundary of the paddock. However, when it noticed"this second obstruction it galloped 'madly back the way it had ccnio when it was stopped" eventually by Mr Christenscn. The horse was then found to be -badly cut and torn — but what of that ? It had run the bloc-k---ado and demonstrated its scorn of !<>gal rights, etc., and the wires were once more down. Seriously a good deal of inconvenience 4 s being experienced by both Kiritaki and Rangitano settlers and it 'nA.- be hoped that as tho money has h^'-ii voted our councillors will see that it is promptly spent on forming this road and giving folks access to their Rangitane properties.
