A PROTEST.
(To the Editor.)
As a reader of both the daily papers in this town, And as on© who can appreciate a fluent speaker or a wellwritten letter, no matter on which side of politics it may be,. l must protest against the insertion of such letters that signed by Mr D. Mclntyre, in your issue of yesterday, and those signed "Optimistic" and "Bryan Boru", # iv this morning's Press. Sucli effusions are no credit to any paper. If a writer cannot clothe his arguments in decent phraseology he should leave the jvork in other hands, and it is very evident that : letterwriting is not tho strong point of these writers. Many of the expressions used may no doubt be heard in ordinary street-comer conversation, but one does not expect to see them in print, and the pointed omission of the "Mr" shows very bad taste. I, have heard even opponents of Mr i Hunter describe him as a vory courteous gentleman, but ono is apt to wonder all the more why he allowed such letters to get into print. I trust this little sth standard lesson on composition may have tho effect desired , and that when either of the writers referred to, ventures again into the arena of public letter- ! writing 1 the letters themselves may teucV to strengthen the cause instead j of alienating su pporters .—l am, etc., j PEDAGOGUE.
