The ' settlers' annual ball was held in the school on ■ Friday night last. No pains had been spared in the arrangements and their efforts were rewarded by great success; abo\it 70 persons being present. ... Mr Lang Is at present an inmate of the Dannevirke hospital, and consequently the school is again closed. Mr S. E. Thompson has just returned from the same institution, where he has been laid up for nine or ten days with an abscess on his ankle ; he is still unable to get about much. Mr Thompson speaks very highly of the staff at the hospital. Numerous residents -are suffering with bad colds here. We have had an unusually fine spell of weather and there should-, be a record; lambing this spring. The death rate amongst ewes so far is very small.
