[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBORNE, yesterday. The Liberal Association has again selected the Hon. J. Carroll as the candidate to receive its support afc the election for the Gisborne constituency. PAHIATUA, to-day, Mr Cooper, the Opposition candidate for Pahiatua, delivered his opening address here last night before an audience of about- 800. " The Mayor presided, and the candidate, who spoke for an hour and a half, met with a good reception. J- Wie principal planks of his platform are : More progressive land settlement system, freehold tenure, economical administration, reform of local Government with a view of abolishing to a large etxent the Public Works Department and vesting many of its powers in local bodies, taxation through Customs for revenue purposes only, reform of labor laws and encouragement of individuality as against socialism. The' candidate was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
