[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, last night. «• . A meeting of grain and produce merchants to-day unanimously passed the .following resolution and sent a telegram to the . Premier -'and Minisr ter of Lands, and the Hons. Sinclair and Callan:— "At a meeting of raermorning it 3vas resolved to wire protesting against the Noxious Weeds Bill being passed. in its present form. ■• The conditions imposed will not have the effect-Qf putting tbe responsibility on .the: grower, producer or original owner, and the trading community-will ■■.suffer" considerable hardship if made' responsible for the presence of- 'Canadian thistle in grain and produce.. While appreciating the action, of (xovernment in attempting' to- rid; the colony of Canadian thistle, we respectfully request the passing of the Bill, by the Upper House be po'stponed^pending merchants being given \ an" opportunity •■ of inspecting the full draft of the Bill, as it is likely to-be* so far-reaching' in its effects." ' It' Avas agreed that a representative be sent to Wellington to give evidence before the committee. A reply was received from Mr McNab to-night wisi the suggestion that the:merchants should communicate the pr.oposals*to Mr Shirtcliffe, representing the merchants in Wellington^ ' . . >. ' -'.'■■
