Lord Beaconsfield was champion of Invercargill, and Alexander's Heir was first and champion at Ashburton as a 3yr*old. His sire, St. Alexander, imported from Scotland, dam Pearl, full sister to MiMatthew Holmes' Crown Prince, being by Lord Salisbury (imported at. a cost of 1400 guineas), out>£ "Damsel," imported from Scotland. As a 4yr old this- mistook the gold medal for the De gt Clydesdale on the | grO'ondj beating all stallions at the Highland show, Glasgow. St. Alexander was by St. Laurence, the latter by old "Prince of Wales," who was sold in Scotland for 800 guineas when 19 years old. The public can see some 50 colts and fillies at Tahoraiti, the progeny of McKenzie 11., and judge for themselves. Only a limited number of mares can be taken this season.
