MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

At the Police Court this morning, before Messrs Buick and Newett, J.'sP., Henry Thompson was charged with the theft of a pair of boots valued at 17s 6d, the property of Hallenstein Bros.

Accused pleaded guilty. Constable Maloney, who prosecuted, stated that- it was reported to him yesterday that a man had stolen a pair of boots from the N.Z. Clothing Factory, and was walking towards Mangatera with them.. He went after the man and accused him of the' theft, which he readily admitted. Accused was a stranger in the place, and was living in a whare at Piri Piri with some other men, but nothing was known, of his past character. Accused said this was his first offence, and he was Very sorry for what he had done.

The Bench convicted accused, and ordered him to come tip 'for sentence when called upon, advising him in the meantime to get out of the town and go to work.

Two prohibition orders were granted against local residents.
