MOROCCO.
GERMAN INTRIGUE
tress Assn — By telegraph — Copyright
LONDON, Yesterday. Possible trouble is feared as the result of Germany, through its Legation, requesting the Moorish Government to release Kaid Ermiki, one of the first of the Northern Governors who adopted the Hafidian cause. The European Legations have claims arising out of his robberies and extortions. His arrest occurred at the instance of Mulai Hand's Command-er-in-Chief, after Ermiki's proceedings at Larache had necessitated armed European intervention. His nephew, a German protege, was released, and thereupon Germany claimed the Kaid's release and showed a list of seven members of the Kaid's family as being German protected subjects. Menebhi replied that the Kaid was solely a Moorish official, not a protege, and Germany was overstepping her rights. The German excuse is that the Kaid served Mulai Hand's interests well.
