The overseer stated lie had made arrangements for metalling England's Hill, and the work will be started next week. The overseer also reported that he had visited several sawmillers in the Taihapo district, and made arrangements for a constant supply of timber at cheaper rates than they had hitherto been getting timber.—Action endorsed. Tho Chairman reported that he had inspected the railway crossing at tho Papatawa station, and was of opinion that if tbey moved the fences so as to give a crossing a chain wide it would mako the crossing a far safer one. — Railway Department to bo v\skod to move fence. O LTSTA X DING R ATES . In answer to Cr Goldfinch, the clerk siated that it would only bo necessary to sue throe Maharahara ratepayers for outstanding rates. Tho total amount outstanding over tho whole county -was £107. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mrs M. Hormansen, Maharahara, asking that contractors be stopped from carting metal across her property; also asking for compensation for damage already done. — Overseer to inspect and tako tho necessary steps. From the District Engineer, acknowledging receipt of Council's lettor ro road loading to Maharahara railway station, and stating that tho matter will bo enquired into. — Received. From J. Reichteiibach, Hope-lands, on behalf of tho settlers, asking that they bo allowed to make a ford across tho Manawatu river at Boese's corner.—Left in tho bauds of Crs Logan, Pattison and the overseer. From the Secretary of tho United Charitable Aid Board, Napier, stating that country members of tho Board &ro entitled to their railway tare, providing' they travel 40 miles or over, and do not receive expenses from any other board. — Loft in tho hands of the chairman to confer with the Mayor of the Woodvillo Borough Council. From the Treasury, informing tho Council that the loan of £3000 is now availablo for the construction of Harding's Road bridge. — Received. From A. Debroeoncey, Knmcroa, applying for permission to transfer his slaughtering license. — Approved. From Valuer-General, asking that, as a revaluation is now taking place, tho Council appoint someono to act for it as a member of tho Assessment Court. — Loft in tho hands of tho Finance Committee to select representative. GENERAL. Cr Nelson detailed to tho Council tho stops taken to protect tho bridges at this end of tho Gorge during the recent tire. Tho Woodvillo Firo Brigade bud gone to a lot of trouble to tako their engine to tho scene of tho firo. and had otherwise worked hard to save tho bridge. Ho said ho thought tho Council should mako a donation to tho Brigade. Three guineas was voted and a vote of thanks was also passed. Tho Chairman road a statement, showing that tho county had a credit balance of £155 2s od, which had to last for practically ten months. It therefore behoved tho Council to go very slow and tako up absolutely no new work for the next few months. This opinion was concurred with by tin* other Councillors. Tho pay-sheet-, amounting to €416 10s ;kl was parsed for payment.
