BOWLING.
<_> — One of ihe most exciting games that has been witnessed on the bowling green for some time took place yesterday afternoon in the competition for the Cowper Feathers. The challengers on this occasion were Webber. Sneli. Marlleti, and I'otts (ski])), and the holders wore represented by McKonzie. Calder, Buiek, and Wright (skip). The game opened very evenly, each side scoring ono and ono up to the sixth bead, when the holders wont away and scored 7, which landed them on the unlucky number of 13. Hero they stuck while their opponents caught and passed thorn. On tho 18th head they broke tin* spoil and scored ono. making tho game 14 all. On the 20th head it was 15 all. and on tho 21st head tho holders with their last howl gained the coveted ono and retained tho trophy, iho scores being: Holders 10. challengers .15. 'Die next ton in of challengers will bo skipped by Mr P. O. Clark. The following club grimes wore also plaved during tho afternoon: — Pairs: Dillon and Chick (2) 20. boat Dobson and Greenwood (5) 17. Jones and Bartleti (ser> 25. boat Snoll and Calder (3) 14. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs Chick, assisted by Miss Parker, and was greatly enjoyed by all. presenton the green. Arrangements are being made for several rinks to pay a friendly visit to Pahiatua next Wednesday. It is hoped that at least- four rinks will bo got away, and if suitable arrangements can bo made* ii is hoped that a similar visit will bo paid to Palmerston North at an early date. The following are the names of those who have put their names down to go to Pahiatua : Clark, Potts. Bartlett, Chick,* Lavelle, Greenwood, Russell, Pawson, Mclvonzio, Jones, Snoll, Hawkins, Lamb, Seorup, Simson and Webber. All others willing to go are requested to hand in their names to the secretary as soon as possible. A peculiar coincidence arises in connect ion with tho feathers game yesterday, in that the present holders have now won their three games by a tie point an the last head. Tho follow iug telegram has. been received by Mr Potts, secretary to tho club, from Mr Pettie, president of the Gisbome Club: "Much regret to bear news of Mr Crespin's death. Kindly convey to bowlers and friends the sympathy of Gisborno bowlers."
