SUICIDE OF A CLERGYMAN.
«. Press Assn — By telegraph — Copyright. (Received this day. 11.. "JO a Tin.) SYDNEY, To-day. The Rev. Thomas Bird, a Methodist minister, committed suicide- at King's Park. He first swallowed strychnine, and then shot himself". He was a witness before the Royal Commission on the Jllingworth land scandals. His connection with the matter rose from his purchasing a property from lliingworth, on which tjie latter obtained a loan from the Treasury in the name of Dunning. There was no suggestion of dishonorable conduct on the Rev. 31 r Birds part, but the notoriety raised evidently preyed on his mlirn. He left a note slating that for a long time he wished to die: "1 am so disappointed at my own weakness; men do as they like with me with money maiters, and my conference, since 1901, always opposed me."
