HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING.
-c SOUTH SCHOOL. The postponed animal meeting of was held last evening, \when there were only 16 present. l\lr H. J. Clayton occupied the chair. The report and balance-sheet were read and confirmed. The report was as follows: — "Your committee report a year's •steady work since the last householders' meeting! Owing to the opening of schools at Tipapakuku and Matahiwi, the attendance at the school is not now so large at is was at the -time of your last annual meeting. -The present roll number is 360. During the year five chains of iron fencing Has been "erected along the Hunter street boundary of tlie school •ground at a cost of £32 Ids, half of which was paid by the Education Board. - New sanitary appliances are nearly completed, and connected 1 with the town drainage " system., bringing the school right up-to-date in sanitary maters, besides effecting a financial saving to the committee of about £10 per "year. An, attempt was made in March last to promote the usual ■ excursion to - Napier. On the only 'convenient date for the excursion a number of scholars and a large per-, centage of teachers were away at the Exhibition at Christchurch ; therefore the excursion for this year had to be ■abandoned. Your committee held ten meetings, the attendances being : A. W. Collett 9, W. G. Hunter 9, F. E. .McKenzie 9, J. T. Wilson 8, Clem: Knight 8, J. G. .Smith 6, E. Lloyd (resigned) 3, D.-Mclntyre-(re-signed) 1, M. Tansey 3, J. Bargh -(elected during year) "3. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to Messrs Collett (late. chairman), Mr Wilson,, (treasurer), Mr McKen_zie (secretary), and other members of the outgoing committee. The following gentlemen were nominated for the committee for the en- . suing -year: W. G. Hunter, H. SeerupV F. & McKenaie, F. Liliquist, H. J. Clayton, S. T. Smith, H. Gebbie, J. W. Haines, and A. Parker. There being -no further nominations the above gentlemen were declared -elected". * ] At a subsequent meeting of the., -committee, Mr Hunter was elected -chairman, Mr F ; . E. McKenzie secretary, and 3fr 'Clayton' treasurer. Messrs Clayton and Gebbie were • appointed a visiting committee. It was decided that the night of the meeting should be the last' Mon- . day in the month. A letter was received from Revs. A. -Grant, E. Robertshawe, and T. T. Thomas, asking if the committee would permit them to give religious instruction on one morning per week from 9 o'clock to nine-thirty. — Permission granted. The committee then adjourned. WHETUKURA. A meeting of householders was held .on Monday evening at 7.30, there being 18 present. Mr Fayer was voted to the chair. The report and balance-sheet, the latter showing a credit balance of £9 3s 6d, were read and adopted. The following gentlemen were nominated for the committee: Messrs Baker, -Nielsen, Morrison, Copeland, Ings,' Fayen, Tates, Chadwick, Smith, •Newby, Hutton and Sterling, and the following were declared elected:^ Messrs Ings, Tates, Smith, Faye< j •Copeland, Morrison, and Nielsen. The meeting then «losed. At a^ subsequent meeting of the committee, Mr Fayen was elected chairman, and Mr Ings secretary and -treasurer for the ensuing year. It was decided that the secretary invite tenders for cleaning school, to , close on the 17th inst. ' Messrs Fayen, Tate, aud Ings were appointed a cc-mmittee to deal with the tenders. The date of meeting was fixed for the last Saturday in the month. The secretary was instructed to write to the Board, asking if the inspector is to visit the school, and if not for what reason? Messrs Morrison and Tates were .appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month, and the committee then adjourned.
