STAMP DUTY.

An Important Point. Per Press Association. Napieb, This day. An interesting point in the matter of stamp duty was before the court to-day, when W. M Newman was charged with failing to stamp a duplicate receipt, defendant entering the plea of guilty said he was totally unaware that duplicates required stamping, and such a thing was unheard of in local business circles. The inspector of police said there was no reason to doubt that the original receipt was stamped, but the Department considered that duplicates should also be stamped. Subsequently defendant withrew the plea of guilty and entered one of not guilty to enable the Magistrate to go into the question thoroughly.
