THE BETTING CASES.
Per Press Association,
Auckland, This Day, This morning Mr Kettle, S.M., said that upon nfore careful consideration of section 4of the Gaming Act, he was inclined to think the latter part did not apply to offences alleged against Barnett and Grant. He suggested the case be re-opened and re-arranged, which was agreed to.
The sittings of the Supreme Court opened at Palmerston to-day, before Mr Justice Cooper. The criminal calendar comprised seven cases, none of any serious moment.
The Salvation Army Biorama Company is expected to arrive here by the 10 30 a.m. tram to-morrow from the north. Judging from the reports of other places, where the largest buildings have been crowded and hundreds turned away, we may expect a very fine programme in Daunevirke. This is without doubt the finest company of its kind that has ever been in New Zealand. They compose a good brass band and a splendid orchestra, seventeen in number, together with the latest and best triple Doeura lantern, and the new and very latest fliekerless kinematograph machine.
