THE UNREST IN RUSSIA.
(United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph — Copyright.) St. Peteksburg, March 17. During the recent strike at Lodz, women and children collected in the yard of the Proznauski factory. The manager after locking the factory, blew the whistle, and drunken Cossacks arriving trampled the women and children, fourteen being killed . Some were driven into water, and six were drowned. Seventeen workmen at the Catherine works at Sosnovitch were killed and wounded by military volleys. The victims were then plundered and thrown, some being still alive, into furnaces, where the charred remains i were found. The St. Petersburg police aie endeavouring to suppress many of the working class rejoicings over the Mukden disaster, which are being held in the belief that it is likely to end the war. St. Petebsbueg, March 19. Peasant bands of 500 to 1000 each are traversing the Piotskow villages, inciting the labourers to join in an agitation to secure possession of the land. Fresh strikes have occurred at Warsaw and Lodzo. Rumours are afloat of the mobilisation of peasants in southern Russia. It is said they stole the Roumanian mail bags containing £41,000.
