TENNIS.
The t«nnis tournament conducted under the auspicies of the Bush. Tennis Association opened at the local courts , this morning, with an Wry of players which may be regarded as a record, in the history of the Association both as regards the numberjand|skill of those present. The competitiors constitute the pick of clubs from Masterton to Napier, and comprise such well-known exponents of the game as Mr Cox, of IVlasterton, former champion of the colony, and Mrs L. A. Abraham, of Palmerston Porth, who has been a prominent figure at tournaments for a number of years. The weather has proved splendid, and the courts are playing exceedingly well, while there is no delay in getting the matches oft", as Mr Bickford, the indefatigable secretary, has all bis arrangements perfected, the games being managed under a clockwork system. For the sake^ol expediting the play a number of the games are being played off on Mr HartguTs courts, kindly lent for the purpose, and the bodily comforts of the players, are being most liberally catered for by a committee of ladies who provide afternoon tea. The visitors will be entertained at a progressive euchre party at the Kuabine Hall to-night, when no doubt a pleasant evening will be spent.
