THE PLAGUE.
No Cause foi* Ala. nA. , PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) Sydney,. January 5. The Health authorities consider that there is no cause tor alarm in regard to the plague at Clarence and declare that Sydney is free from any trace of the disease. The opinion is that the infection came from Brisbane. Reports received by the Board of Health in regard to the outbreak at Clarence River, show that the ; local doctors are convinced that at least one case is that of true plague. The Board to-day despatched officers to investigate. In the meantime the local authorities are taking every precaution and quarantined the hospital and the homes of the patients. Besides the Plummers, who were supposed to have succumbed to heat apoplexy, two other recent deaths are believed to have resulted from plague. The discovery was made through one of tjje two patients now under treatment" undergoing an operation for appendicitis. The examination dis- ' closed plague bacillus.
