IN A FRAIL BOAT, AND AT GREAT RISK.

(Per Press Association) • Nelson, March 24. A narrow escape from drowning is reported from the Croixelles. MrW. J. Stewart, of York station, went' aoross the harbour to Whangarei, in a boat, accompanied By his little daughter Florrie, in order to get his mails. Mrs Stewart watched the boat, which was considerably loaded, for a time, and then went indoors for a moment. On returning, she could no longer see the boat. With the aid of glasses she then saw that it had capsized and that her hushusbaud and daughter were struggling in the water. . She ran to the shore, and launching a frail boat, rowed not a distance of three miles. Not without very considerable risk and anxiety she reached the capsized boat, when she found her hnsband clinging with one hand to the boat and with the other supporting their daughter, who was then unconscious. Aided by Mrs Stewart all got ashore, but Stewart and the little girl had been in the water for about two hours. The girl remained unconscious for some hours, but both are. now recovering.
