Tennis Tournament.
The annual tennis tournament among clubs in the bush districts of Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay was commenced at Dannevirke yesterday. The courts are in good order and played very true, but the high wind which blew the whole day proved disadvantageous to the competitors. The following games were decided yesterday (Tuesday) : — Men's Championship Doubles — First round — Stewart and Jones 77 v. Paul and Downes 80 ; Deighton and Giesen 75, v Cato and Bowden 80. Men's Handicap Singles — Swainson 75 v. Bowden 80, Storey 45 v. Jones 80, Giesen 76 v. McKenna 80; Cato 80, v. E. N. Blakiston 73. Second round — Deighton 69 v. Marryat (retired) 51; McKenna 80 v.Tbompson 68; Cato and Blakiston a bye.
Men's Handicap Doubles — Ransom and Swainson 68 v. Jones and Stewart 80.
Ladies' Handioap Singles — Miss Spencer (owes 8) 50 v. Mrs Giesen (rec 5) 37 ; Miss Robertshawe 50 v Miss Warren 45. Second round— Miss Bcberthawe 49 v. Miss Manisty 50. Miss Spencer 50 v Miss Ingles. Tbe final is to be played between Miss Mannisty and Mis* Spenoer. Ladies' Handicap Doubles— Mrs Giesen and Miss Robertshawe (nor) -52, v. Misses Inglis and Warren (rec 10) 60; Mrs Stewart and Miss Spencer 49 v. Misses Grant and Levthead 60 ; Misses Beighton and Ryan 57 v. Misses Mannisty and fifestoby 60. Combined Handicap Doubles-*- MacKenna and Miss Ingles 60 v. Jones and Mrs Stewart 58; Swainson and: Miss Grant 60 v. Deighton and Mrs Giesori 49; Stewart and Miss Spencer 60 v.
