Dear Sir, — I HAVE to acknowledge the rereceipt of a cheque for £137 Ids 7d, beiog balance payable under policy No. 54,118 on the life of my son, Alfred Andresen Friis, and I desire to thank tbe Department for its promptitude in paying the claim. I also . wish . to place on record the fact that the policy, which was taken out in June, 1886, and on wbich premiums ceased to be paid in 1894, was, notwithstanding, kept alive by the Department's liberal system of surrender value until the date of my son's death last month. Tbe sum assured, £200, plus bonuses £38 18s, less arrears of premium, has, therefore, been paid to me quite unexpectedly, as I thought that the policy had lapsed long ago.
