The Henderson Fatality
A MAN CHARGED WITHMtrRDER (Per Press Association.) Auckland, This day. Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death of; Jerry Driscoll show he was in the company of several persons at Henderson, including a woman named Alice Hautley, who had been living- with deceased On- the goldfields, also Hugh Storey, John Baxter, William Small," and John Kennedy. -It' is stated the woman refused to accompany Driscoll to his camp, when Dris-r coll threatened her. Baxter interfered and threw Driscoll oat of.. the door. ' : Driscoll threatened to kill Baxter with an axe if hey came outside. He then appears to have left for his camp. Later Driscoll was found. on the track dead, with a wound on his head, evidently ' caused by a fall or a blunt instrument. There are no indications of a struggle, and nothing in Baxter's appearance to*! indicate his connection with the supposed crime. . .. ■ . ■ Baxter, when oharged with murder, refused to make any statement beyond that be struck deceased on the night ia question. ' Baxter was charged at the Police Court this morning and remanded peudipg the inquest this afternoon.
