AN EIGHTS NEW ZEALAND CONTINGENT OFFERED.
MR SEDDON ON THE SITU- 4 ATION.- :■■' } Wellington, This day.: ; The Premier, through the Governor, . has. offered an eighth contingent for South Africa, and' urges that unless absolutely neuessary it should not be sub-divided, and if possible be joined with the sixth and seventh, which, would enable the New Zealand forces to maintain their strength and field efficiency, further by keeping the New Zealanders together it would be an incentive to the officers and men of the sixth contingent to volunteer for further service. The Premier, in his message, expresses the opinion that additional troops would not have been required had all the statesmen and parties iv the United Kingdom been, guided by a love of country \ and patriotism. - T \ In regard to the mobilisation of the " Eighth Contingent it is unlikely a camp will be formed till the holidays are over, but the Defence Dapartment will push forward its preparations, in the meantime. .
