Makotuku School Concert

Tne JXLSKOtUKU souooi coucert, iuo proceeds of which will be devoted to purchasing prizes for the children and any surplus to go to the organ fund, came of? in the Foresters Hall on Wednesday evening. The hall, which had been prettily decorated with flags, was packed to tbe doors. A leugthy programme, coutaining no less than SJ9 different items, each of which was given by children attendingthe school, was got through without a hitch, to the enjoyment of the large audience and also to the evident satisfaction of the performers. The programme consisted of choruses, recitations, solos, dialogues, various drills by both boys and girls, duets and nigger dialogues, each aud all of which were admirably executed and reflect the very highest praise on Mr and Mrs Johnstone aud the teachiug Btaff. . The singing of the National Anthem brought a most enjoyable eatortaininent to a close, Mr C 0. Smith, Chairman of 'the Sohool Committee, thanked Mr Johnstone and tbe teachiug staff for the pains they had taken to give them such a treat, and especially to Mrs Johnstone for her untiring efforts is drilling the children. Tbe ball was then cleared and, to music found by Messrs Gasson (piano) and Morrison (violiu), dancing waß indulged in, Mr Mitchell, as usual, made an effloient M.0., and Miss Anuie Grant supplied the extras. The proceeds of the concert amounted to £10 13s,
