WEBER ROAD BOARD.
At a meeting of the above Board, held at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, the 30th September, there were present — Messrs Franklin (Chairman), Ellingbam, Chote, Bond and McLean.— Correspondence— From Clerk Patangata County Council, stating that the Council bad postponed the passing of the emended by law to allow the Board time to propose other amendnowin.forca in the Porangahau riding. Received. — From tbe Secretary School Committee, Ti Tree Point, asking liberty to erect a verandah in front of Board's office. Proposed by he Chairman that the liberty asked or be granted. — Seconded by "Mr Ellingham and carried. -From the Pdrangahau Road Board, stating that their Board would carry out their agreement re Waimata road, and asking the Board to have the necessary formation on their part of the road done, and they would pay for the same. Received. — From Mr O'Meara, M.H.R., acknowledging receipt of letter^ re petitions sent to him, also promising to attend to the various matters. Received.— From Mr Gregorie, asking if there aie any funds available that the sum of about £20 be spent ic completing the road leading to his property. Proposed by Mr Etlingham that the matter stand over until next meeting of the Board. Seconded by the Chairman and carried 1 :— From the Hawke's Bay Land Board, stating that the balance of sections, Block VIII, Weber S.D., would be set ppart as a domain ground, and asking this Board to call a meeting of ratepayers to elect 5 persons as a Domain Board. Proposed by Mr McLean that a public meeting be called for 2 p.m. on Saturday, the 28th October next. Seconded by Mr Bond and carried. — From Mr J, D. Manro, asking liberty to erect two gates on the Waimata road through sheep reserve. Proposed by Mr McLean that tbo liberty asked for be granted, provided there is . no objection! from the settlers interested in that road. Seconded by Mr Bond and carried.— From Mr Queriß, asking that a few slips be removed off Waimata road to enable him te get a dray to his property. Proposed by the Chairman that the overseer inspect the Waimata road, and put on a man to do the necessary work, the same to be under the supervision of Messrs Guerin and McKain. Secooded by Mr McLean and carried. — A circular was received from the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce ra the purchase of the WellingtonManawatu railway by the Government, and asking the Board to assist by sanding a delegate to the meeting to be held at Palmeroton North at some future date. Proposed by Mr McLean that in reply the Chamber of Commerce be informed that this Board are not in sympathy with the statements contained in their circular. Seconded by Mr Chote and carried.— A lengthy-- discussion here took place re by-law No. 3 regulating wheel traffic, when two amendments were agreed on. — Proposed by Mr Chote that a copy of the proposed amended by law be sent to the Waipawa County Council asking them to adopt the proposed amendments on the Dan nevirke- Weber road. Seconded by the cbairmaa and carried Proposed by Mr McLean that the portion of the by-law limiting the number of animals to be used be suspended from the first of November, 1899, to the end of February 1900. Seconded by the Chairman. Proposed by Mr Ellingham as an amendment that the by law be enforced in every respect. Seconded by Mr. Chote. Only Mr ElliDgham and Mr Chote votiDg for the amendment the motion was carried.— Mr McLean gave notice to move at next meeting of the Board in accordance with section 37 of the Rating Act, 1894, and section 114 of the Roard Boards Act 1882, to levy a general rate of one balf-penoy in the 4!,0b all rateable property within the Board's district, the said rate to be for the period commencing oo the Ist day of April 1899 and ending on the 31st day of Marcfc 1900, payable inone sum' on the 30th day of December 1899 to the Board's clerk, at the Board's office.— Road overseer's r«port read.— Proposed by Mr McLean that applications be called for two horses and a tip dray, applicants to state price required, also age «f bors«s. Applications to close at next meeting of the Board en the 28th October.— Seconded by Mr Bond and .carried Proposed by Mr Chote that' the overseer inspec^ the metal on Wimbledon end of main road to ascertain what number of ynrds are required for repairing the same, also to find ont the Quantity required to complete breach in metal near Mr Poole's, and. amount required en top of cutting near mill, also amaunt required from Rhone creek to Waipatiki, and repairing metal at the Kereru bridge, metal for the latter place t» be taken out of Mr Berotsena sectieo, Waipatiki to Rhone creek from Mr Gregorias section, and from Mill Stream lload for top of cutting above mill and the por> tion n«»r Mr Poole's, and to report to next nieetiug re quantity of metal required and probable cost of same. Seconded by Mr Eliingbam and carried. Proposed by the Chairman that Messrs Butler and Cullinane be written to asking if they would be willing to have their contracts canctllad, as the quarries from which they were to take the mntal have turmd out a failure. Seconded by Mr McLean and carried. — Proposad by Mr McLean that the Overseer be, instructed to lay off the work on Waiouata road, and that tenders be called for the sums as soon as the road is gazetted, tenders to close in 14 days trora date of notice calling same, and that the Chairman and Mr Chote be impowered to open and accept teuders. Seconded hy Mr Bond and carried.— Proposed by Mr Chste that the Overseer interview Mr McDoaald re carting timber for foot bridga at the dam. Seconded by Mr Bond and carried. — Proposed by Mr McLoan that the Overseer interview Mr Poole and arrange with him for erecting foot bridge at the daih. Secondad by tbo chairman and carried.—On a motion of Mr Chote, the pay sheet amounting to £65 7s O'l> was passed for payment.
