(from ouk corkespondent.) At the R.M. Court here nn order was made on Charles Dixon, formerly of Danevirko, to conlributo £l a week towards tlio rnnintonance of his wifo and children. Mrs Dixon said the whole trouble arose through h,er husband drinking and she had several times been without anything but a littlo flour in the house. Dixon said he earned 1 Os a day when in work. The Borough Council have decidod to form tho street up to the racecourse the whole width and to construct a footpath, the Jockey Club and A. and P. Society each contributing towards the cost. An entertainment is to bo held on Friday week for the purpose of aiding tho fund to pay the cost of Sf-ndirig tho Rov. C. M. Isitt to enquire into tho prohibition movement in America, and its working. Tho United Froe Mothodist Conference opens hero on Thursday. Mr R. L. Griulinton is enlarging his furniture shop. Messrs Hawkins and Crowley have taken the corner shop of Mr Beagley's bloek, and have eonvoited it into an excollent auction room. Tho site is a good one for the purpose. The Pahiatua Horticultural Society held their annual Show today, and was very successful. The Uorgo lino will bo sufficiently cloarod to enable through traffic to bo rosmnod to-dny. Tho Maharahara School Cornniitteo have passed a resolution congratulating Miss Caughley on the satisfactory results she has achieved at their school. Mr Taj'lor, our new J.P., was sworn in by Mr Turnbull, E.M., on Thursday. The Rifle Club is to fire a match with the Napier Navals oa "Wednesday. Tho entertainment in aid of the funds of tho Maharahara Cricket Club came off nt tho Schoolroom last evening, and passed off well. Danevirke was strongly represented. Songs were given by Mrs Chadwick and Miss Crawford, Rev. E. Robertshawe, Messrs Hawkins, Wilson, and Smith, and duets by Mr and Mrs Chad wick, and. Messrs Chadwick and Wilson, recitations by Messrs Hawkins, Wilson, and Izod, a character sketch by Mr Wilson, --and a reading by Mr Haggeu. Mrs Burraestor opened the programme with an overture on the piano, and also kindly played most of the accompaniments. Miss Stacpoolo aho played several accompaniments. Yotes of thanks were passed to those who had taken part in]the entertainment, and to Mrs Chadwick for tho use of her piano. A dance -was afterwards held in Mr Goldfinch's woolshed.
