POLITICAL GOSSIP.
♦— In the Legislative Council on Thursday the Libel Bill and the Courts of Justice Technical Defects Bill passed their final stage. Leave of absence for a fortnight has been granted Sir George Grey on account of illness. An amendment was made to the Electoral Bill allowing any Maori possessed of freehold property to be registered under the Act, such Maori not to be allowed to vote at the election of Maori members. Sir John Hall is to move that the woman franchise shall not come into force till June, 1893. Keturns of the revenue o£ the colony for the last twenty years contain the following figures : Wool, £65,396,580 ; gold, £22,811,365 grain, £12,247 ) 240;f1ax£1,650,278; kauri gum, £4,848,266; butter and cream, £1,599,492; frozen meat £4,434,392. Ministers' travelling expenses last year totalled £982 10s; travelling allowance £1004 5s 9d. The Licensing Act Amendment Bill prevents any person from binding hotelkeepers to purchase from said person. The Minister for Agriculture says he will have any soils sent to Wellington analysed free, also paying carriage.
