HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Friday, July 8. The afternoon sitting of the House was occupied in a debate on the following motion proposed by Mr Ballance. This House dosires to express its opinion that tho proposed introduction of coloursd labor into Australia by the resumption of recruiting among the islands of tho Pacific is a retrograde step, and calculated to do serious injury to the people of Australasia as well as to the coloured races eonoorned, and the House authorises Sir George Grey to represent the colony in Australia in reference to the question. The debate was interrupted by the 5.30 adjournment. Evening Sitting, The House resumtd at 7.30. The Kanaka labor debate was resumed, and Mr Ballance's motion was carried by 34 to 18 The Oyster Fisheries Bill was road a second time. Mr BalUnce moved the second reading of the West Coast Settlement Eeserves Bill to validate leases on the West Coast, to put an end to litigation that had been going on for some years, and to establish friendly relations between the lessees and owners. The Bill was agreed to, and the House rose at 12.40 a.m.
