SPORTING.
RE ORANGE PEEL. The following letter has been handed to us for publication Christchurch, December 3, 1879. J. Wilkie, Esq., Secretary Ashburton Racing Club.
Dear Sir, —Your letter in reference to Orange Peel was considered by the Committee of the C.J.C. this afternoon, and I am instructed to inform you that the nomination of Orange peel was informal, and the horse therefore should be disqualified. Yours very faithfully, Fred Dioby, Sec., C.J.C.
The following horses will therefore be the winners in the events in which Orange Peel came in first:—
Ladies Purse, 25 sovs.-—Mr. Antler son’s Tam o’ Shanter.
Farmer’s Plate of £lo—Mr. Herrick’s Merlin. Tradesman’s Handicap, £2o—Mr. Herrick’s Merlin.
