ONE-SIDED GAME
SUBURBAN FAILURE
CRICKET AT EDEN PARK
Dismissed for only 118, the City and Suburban cricket representatives lost their one-day game with Auckland B at Eden Park on Saturday by eight wickets on the first innings. After G. A. Richards (54) and L. C. Archer (57) had put on nearly 100 runs for the second wicket, tne Auckland B side went on to tally 272 for six wickets, R. H. Johns top-scoring With 73 not out. . The Brabin Cup team had the better of its match against an Auckland Colts eleven. Batting for four of the six hours' playing time, the Cup team made 198 for seven wickets declared, the Colts replying with 127 for eight wickets. Neither game provided much interesting cricket for a fairly large crowd. Tentli-wicket Stand. —Nine wickets fell for 69 runs in the City and Suburban innings against Auckland B before a lastwicket stand between G. Woolley and T. Gibson added 49. Gibson, who batted just under two hours, was 37 not out when Woolley (24) was stumped by Blandford off Postles' bowling. The brunt of the Auckland side's bowling fell on W. J. Brown and C. A. Snedden. Brown took four for 45 in 22 overs, seven maidens, while Snedden took two for 40 in 19 overs, seven maidens. The City and Suburban bowling during Auckland B's innings was not particularly impressive. J. Hetherington, with three for 58, was the most successful bowler. Going in at the fall of the sixth wicket, the Auckland skipper, Postles, hit up 47 not out before stumps. Gilmour and McKay Score Well.—The Brabin Cup team made a poor start against Auckland Colts and the first three wickets realised only 49 runs. G. G. H. Gilmour and A. G. Putt made a good fourth-wicket stand, however, and took the score to 137. Gilmour, after an early escape, batted confidently and carried on after Putt's dismissal to reach 65. He batted two and a quarter hours and hit six fours. Putt's 44 included four fours and one six. The innings was declared closed at the tea adjournment with seven down for 198. The not-out batsmen, M. Hay (17) and I. Kingstone (22), had both scored freely and appeared well set. Most successful bowler for Colts was H. R. Thompson, who took three for 45. Apart from R. R. McKay, who played a sound innings for 64, and was still undefeated when stumps were drawn, none of the Colts batsmen stayed long. G. Burgess (17) and H. Harrison (11) were the only others to reach double figures. Colts' total was 127 for seven. Putt (two for 7) and J. Hayes (two for 35) were the bowlers with the best figures.
