ACTION WITHDRAWN
KEEPING THE PEACE COMPLAINTS BY WIFE A case which came before the divorce court recently was recalled in the Police Court to-day when Mrs. Julia Hope Cullwick, who had brought an action against her husband, Wilfred Cullwick, alleging that he had used insulting or provoking language, and asking that he be ordered to enter into a recognisance to keep the peace, agreed to withdraAv the information. Mr J. F. W. Dickson, who appeared for Mrs. Cullwick, mentioned that the husband took proceedings for divorce on the grounds of alleged adultery. "In order to avoid publicity my client decided not to defend the petition, although the allegations were absolutely denied, as they were untrue," said Mr. Dickson. "There was nothing between Mrs. Cullwick and the co-respondent in any way. She was compelled to leave her husband because of his cruelty and she eventually had to seek police protection. This man has been continually insulting and abusing her, hence these proceedings. However, I have been assured by my friend that this conduct will be discontinued, and I now wish to have the proceedings withdrawn." Mr. Bovce, who represented the defendant' agreed and the presiding justices, Messrs. C. W. Lopdell and C. Robinson, gave leave accordingly.
